The central axis of the smE-MPOWER approach is a learning community of SME coaches and intermediaries, strategically sharing proven operational know-how.
                            
The community worked with individual SME, and groups of SME, as they developed their R&D proposals and made applications for funding.

A team of experts was also on hand to guide, coach and facilitate the SME during all stages of the application process. This means that SME were provided with a broad support package that included technical support to help them realise their innovation potential and practical support to ensure the funding application process was as painless as possible.

The smE-MPOWER approach is built as a standardised system and takes into account the complexity of innovation systems which include various actors such as industry, intermediaries and regional policy makers.
